Dolphin Beach House
Listing Description
Listing Description
This delightful six to seven bedroom oceanfront villa on Glen Beach combines the benefits of a private beach setting with the modern day luxuries of sophisticated living, with each floor having a distinct flair. This highly private residence on a 1,000-square-meter plot that is fully hidden from its neighbors by lush tropical greenery. Dolphin Cottage is conveniently positioned just steps away from Cape Town’s most discrete and secluded sand beach, as well as next to the much larger and more popular Camps Bay beach and restaurants.
This deceptively huge home is in the most popular region of Cape Town, but it is absolutely private and concealed from the outer world, so even residents who know the area struggle to discover it.
The villa emits an air of elegant relaxation, with light clapboard colonial exteriors and relaxing invitingly warm interiors of sophisticated design and polished finishes of mahogany and other exotic woods.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are separately fitted and distinctive to each other.
FIRST FLOOR
The upper level houses a huge master bedroom suite with an exquisite hardwood ceiling made of interconnected trusses reminiscent of marine design. A central closet wall separates the bedroom suite from the extremely private ensuite lounge. There is a large balcony at the front that provides vast sea views as well as views of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostils mountain range, with two more balconies on either side. On one side, the balcony looks over the trees to the pool and back garden, with views of Lions Head, while on the other, a large private sun terrace beckons.
Offset to the back is a comfortable open study with fax and broadband internet access. A second single room beneath the roof eves with sea facing portholes and mountain views is available on this floor by prior appointment, although it is not ensuite and is mostly intended for accompanying youngsters.
The huge ensuite bathroom on the first floor features a walk-in double shower, an elongated oval freestanding bath, and unusual washbasin cabinets, as well as beautiful mountain and sea views. The ceilings are adorned with brass chandeliers, and the sumptuously upholstered furnishings and dark stained oak floors add to the luxurious atmosphere. The separate shower room features sea-facing portholes, adding to the seafaring atmosphere.
GROUND FLOOR
The ground floor features a secluded double ensuite bedroom with double doors opening to the expansive front deck, offering a classic frontal sea view framed by palm trees. Additionally, the room provides views into the tropical jungle on the side.
The ground floor bathroom boasts an extra-large bathtub, mahogany furnishings, thick pile carpets, and classic Victorian fittings that complement the tropical jungle visible through large sash windows. A unique outdoor shower hidden in the trees on the front deck adds a touch of luxury.
LOWER GROUND FLOOR
On the lower ground floor, there are two double ensuite bedrooms—one overlooking a waterfall and the other opening into a lush private courtyard. Two single bedrooms with a shared bathroom overlook the garden. The three lower ground bathrooms feature a modern aesthetic with limestone, travertine, and caesar stone.
Living Areas: Imaginatively decorated with high-quality materials and finishes, the interiors feature a main ground floor reception living room with solid wood panel floors, crystal chandeliers, and a Steinway concert grand piano. The space exudes a relaxed feel with splashes of luxury, blending colonial and afro chic elements. Wide patio doors open onto a large wooden sea-facing deck on one side and spacious garden and pool decks on the other.
Adjacent to the hallway, a cozy television lounge with Persian rugs and striking wallpaper opens onto the rear garden jungle, offering mountain views through the trees. A fully equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ area allow seamless entertaining for both large and small groups.
An elegant central staircase, framed by a 9m high window with magnificent mountain views, leads to the large sunny lounge on the lower ground floor. This lounge opens onto a courtyard surrounded by impenetrable tropical jungle, with a wooden staircase leading back up to the front deck. The lower ground floor also houses a full-specification kitchen, dining area, and a classic brick wine cellar with an oak barrel-vaulted ceiling.
The 1st-floor lounge boasts sea-facing balconies on two sides and mountain views through or over the surrounding treetops, providing an intimate space for quiet relaxation away from the rest of the villa.
Outdoor: This beachside villa offers spacious seclusion with mature trees and palms, an expansive pool patio, separate barbecue and entertainment decks, and a soothing cascading stream running the full length of the property. The wind-free location, concealed by thick tropical vegetation, provides 360-degree mountain and sea views. The gardens, surrounded by indigenous trees, offer privacy, shade, and protection from mid-afternoon heat and sea glare.
The 16m heated pool features an attractive grotto, spacious sundecks, an outdoor shower, and a comfortable sauna. A ‘shipwreck’ style outdoor seating area under the tree canopy on the wide front deck provides a unique dining experience with stunning sea views.
Staff: The villa comes fully serviced with a butler/cook and cleaning staff. The cook prepares daily breakfast and other meals upon request, as well as shopping for groceries.
Double garaging is provided, and separate staff quarters for two are discreetly located off the back courtyard, accessible from the lower ground floor. Additionally, a sophisticated security monitoring television surveillance system controls the house and surrounding area.
